Woodturning

These pieces show the variety of vessels I have made in my woodturning adventure so far, representing my explorations in form and technique.

My woodturning evolved from my work with “flat wood” – bird feeders, toy boats, boxes, and signs. The beauty of natural wood is enhanced by turning it on a lathe where the form emerges, enhanced by natural features and characteristics of the particular species, the particular wood selection, and the tools and techniques applied.

As I learn more about all of these elements, I strive to make beautiful pieces that challenge my skills, please my eye, and achieve my vision. Woodturning is such a tactile activity, I learn to shape the form, smooth the surface, and apply the finish with touch.

My other items are also turned on my lathe – the Humming Buoy hummingbird feeder, spinning tops, and the O, Tannenbaum decorative Christmas trees.
